How to Measure Blackout Blinds
Recess Fitting for Blackout Blinds
This is the measurement you need to make if you want the blind to fit inside the window recess. Measure the full width & height of the 'recessed' area (wall to wall), as shown in the diagram below taking the smallest measurement. We will make the blind size to the measurements specified by you on order, less any deductions as outlined on the product information tab.
Tips
-
use a steel metal tape measure for accuracy and measure in centimetres to the nearest millimetre.
-
measure in 3 places for both 'width' and 'height' then use the smallest measurements for ordering. Always double check your measurements!
-
don't make any deductions for 'recess' specified blinds because the factory will do that to ensure the blind fits perfectly.
-
look out for any obstructions such as window handles, tiles, dado rails etc and take their position into account if neccessary.
Exact Fitting for Blackout Blinds
This is the measurement you need to take if you want the blind to hang outside of the window recess. We will make the blind size to the measurements specified by you on order, less any deductions as outlined on the product information tab.
Tips
-
measure the exact width of the area you would like the blind to cover. To minimize light leakage we would recommend an overlap of 6cm either side & 7cm at the top of the window.
-
the overlap at the bottom of the window is a matter of personal choice.
-
look out for any obstructions such as tiles, dado rails, radiators etc and take their position into account if neccessary.
-
Important Note: The width of a Blackout Roller Blind is always the 'bracket' to 'bracket' measurement and not the 'cloth (fabric)' width. The fabric will always be shorter by between 2.8cm to 4.4cm depending on the blind size ordered. The Roller Blind will always be manufactured with 'extra' fabric on the length to ensure the tube is covered and not visible when the blind is fully extended to the height ordered. We will make the blind size to the measurements specified by you on order, less any deductions as outlined on the product information tab. length

Fabric width guide & allowances for Blackout Blinds:
The allowance made to calculate your cloth size is simply your blind size 'less the width deduction' value displayed in the table below. (Please note we work to an operating tolerance of +/- 5mm). Note: Due to the weight of some fabrics, roller blinds with horizontal joins will be manufactured on either a 40mm or 45mm diameter tube to avoid bowing.
